Welcome to the Visual BIP Builder. This video walks you through how to create a high quality visual behavior plan in six clear steps using the BIP Visualized builder.
Step 1: Start With the Behavior Overview
Begin by outlining the background information, including the operational definition, function of behavior, baseline data, and behavior goals. This helps keep the plan grounded in what you are supporting and why.
Step 2: Choose the Right Replacement Skill
Next, identify what the learner should do instead during challenging moments. The builder guides you through a clear hierarchy, starting with functional communication and self-advocacy, then moving into emotional regulation and executive functioning skills as appropriate. Strategies can be dragged and dropped directly into the plan.
Step 3: Teach the Skill Clearly
Teaching strategies are often where behavior plans fall short. Here, you can select or customize specific teaching approaches, such as modeling, visual supports, or role play, and clearly describe when and how the team should teach the skill.
Step 4: Prioritize Support
Instead of overwhelming teams with too many strategies, the builder helps you identify the most important challenging situation to focus on first. This prioritization makes the plan more realistic and easier to implement consistently.
Step 5: Add Preventative Strategies
Once priorities are clear, you can select preventative strategies that help set the learner up for success. These include options like building rapport, offering choices, and other proactive supports that can be explored and added visually.
Step 6: Reinforce and Respond
The final steps guide you through reinforcement strategies and behavior response plans. Teams can clearly see how to reward skill use and how to respond if challenging behavior still occurs, using connected, step-by-step guidance rather than an isolated list of strategies.
